Kirkleatham Arts Fair in Association with Saltburn Arts Fair

1 & 2 June 2013

Push // Pull

Saltburn Arts Fair are curating a contemporary arts fair at Kirkleatham Museum as part of the region wide Festival of the North East.  Kirkleatham Museum will play host to three significant exhibitions including internationally renowned artists Len Tabner and Ian MacDonald alongside a specially curated programme of artists who are  considered to be pushing the boundaries of their practice selected from a UK field.

The context for this theme makes a historical reference to the industrial and rural heritage of the North East.  Built upon innovation Teesside, in particular, was and still is at the forefront of ground breaking new technological developments.  Within the contemporary arts East Cleveland  has a long and illustrious history of progressive new artists emerging and influencing the sector.  Notably being home to the Northern Impressionists in the 19th Century and most recently hitting international headlines with the Olympic inspired installations of the Saltburn Yarn Bombers.

A selection of 20 artists will showcase their work in the newly refurbished Pavillion at Kirkleatham museum.

Artists will be asked to consider how they are pushing the boundaries of critical thinking within their practice.

Curators from the Contemporary Arts Society, mima and a special guest artist will support the event through a panel discussion to be held as part of the opening of the exhibition.
